Bee Pollen Analysis: Nutritional Profile of a 'Complete Food'

The following table is a bee pollen analysis. Pollen is considered a 'superfood' or 'complete food'; it contains most of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals essential for sustaining life. Whether they actually produce an effect in the human body when consumed is still a matter for researchers to figure out. See a discussion of these issues. This page is solely devoted to a pollen analysis.

Vitamins
A (carotinoids) Critical to the development of bones and teeth. Helps maintain good eyesight. Enhances the immune system. Prevents red blood cell damage.
B-1 Thiamine Needed by your body to process fats, proteins and carbohydrates. B-1 also helps form the fuel your body needs to function.
B-2 Riboflavin Processes amino acids and fats. Also activates vitamin B-6 and folic acid.
B-3 Niacinamide Used by your body to release energy from carbohydrates and to process alcohol.
B-5 Pantothenic Acid Converts nutrients into energy. Also essential for processing fats.
B-6 Pyridoxine The principle vitamin for processing amino acids. Also helps convert nutrients into energy.
B-7/H Biotin Aids in the utilization of folic acid, Pantothenic acid and Vitamin B12 and promotes healthy hair and nails.
B-9 Folic Acid Assists the normal development of cells, especially during pregnancy. Also protects your body from amino acids linked to heart disease and stroke.
B-12 Maintains healthy nervous system and assists with blood cell formation.
C Helps the formation of scar tissue, Fights bacterial infection, Reduces the impact of some allergy producing substances, Helps prevent the common cold (Controversial), As an antioxidant, fights cancer, cataracts, and heart disease.
D Critical for bone development and strength, Mantains a stable nervous system, Maintains a normal and strong heartbeat, Helps in blood clotting.
E Lessens oxidative damage after hard training, Prevents lung damage from many pollutants, Vital to the immune system.
Choline Controls the buildup of fat and cholesterol in the body. Makes acetylcholine (needed for normal muscle function). Helps to regulate the kidneys, liver and gallbladder.
Inositol Necessary for the formation of lecithin and aids in the transport and breakdown of fats. Helps reduce blood cholesterol and helps prevent thinning hair.
Rutin Vascular protectant, reducing capillary permeability and fragility, varicose veins, internal bleeding, hemorrhoids, to prevent strokes, and for prophylaxis of mucositis associated with cancer treatments.
Minerals
Boron Helps maintain healthy bone and joint function.
Calcium Development and maintenance of strong bones and teeth.
Copper Helps protect the cardiovascular, skeletal, and nervous systems.
Iodine Makes thyroid hormones (maintain normal cell metabolism)
Iron Part of hemoglobin and myoglobin, essential in blood oxygen movement and storage.
Magnesium Involved in regulating the heart activity. Formation of bone and teeth. Absorption of calcium and potassium. Cellular metabolism and the production of energy. Assists the parathyroid gland to process vitamin D.
Manganese Healthy skin, bone, and cartilage formation, as well as glucose tolerance.
Molydbenum Needed to metabolize many substances and produce different enzymes in the body. Normal cellular function.
Phosphorus Involved in bone and teeth formation as well as metabolism, kidney function, cell growth and heart muscle contraction. Helps in conversion of food to energy and in vitmain utilisation.
Potassium Water balance, normal blood pressure, muscle contraction, nerve functioning.
Selenium Makes antioxidant enzymes, which play a role in preventing cell damage.
Silicoa Plays a role in many body functions and aids mineral absorption.
Sodium Essential in the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach which protects the body from food infections. Important role in maintaining the water balance within cells and in the function of both nerve impulses and muscles.
Sulphur Essential element of proteins and vitamins.
Zinc Protein production, hormonal and reproductive functions, growth, immune function, taste perception, hair growth.

According to bee pollen analysis, this interesting substance also contains 26 amino acids (the building blocks of proteins), 11 enzymes and coenzymes, 14 fatty acids, fats, oils carbohydrates, water, and pigments. Honeybee pollen is low in calories, high in protein and low in carbs.
